The wedding season is approaching, and what is a wedding without glamor and push? The mehendi ceremony is one of the most fun and glamorous pre-wedding occasions that usually takes place one or two days before the wedding. It is considered one of the oldest wedding traditions.
Mehendi means the bond of love and marriage, and a promise that both the bride and the groom will remain wholeheartedly throughout their lives.
Mehendi or henna is derived from the mehendi plant that is scientifically known as Lawsonia Inermis and is popularly called the henna tree. This flowering plant is native to the Arabian Peninsula, North Africa, Near East and South Africa. The Mehendi custom is celebrated with pomp in many Arab countries. History shows that mehendi or henna was used in Europe in the 19th century.
Henna is the paste that is made from the stems and leaves of the henna plant and when applied on the hand it becomes mehendi. The leaves and stems dry and become powder.
